(Photo opposite: South Lake Hotel, Changchun, China) A few days ago, I enjoyed having an extensive brunch at the restaurant of Changchun’s South Lake Hotel. Apart from the Shangri - La Hotel, the South Lake Hotel has put itself on Changchun’s map as another five star hotel. It’s said to be one of Changchun’s very finest hotels. The name South Lake Hotel says it all. The hotel is situated on the South Lake. It’s surrounded by water and plenty of trees in a marvellous setting. The spacious area of Changchun’s South Lake Hotel has been designed along the lines of a gated community. The architecture reflects a one of a kind blend of Asian and Western styles.
You can track the restaurant of the South Lake Hotel in the main building of the entire complex. The main building’s known as Clear Moon Villa. The hotel’s restaurant in the Clear Moon Villa comes up with a choice buffet over the weekend. It won’t astonish you that we went for the buffet. The buffet served as brunch for us. The buffet of the South Lake Hotel covers Chinese and Asian as well as Western food. It tastes very delicious and won’t disappoint you. All in all, when I have all the time in the world going for that sort of thing steps up my quality of life.
By the way, whilst strolling across the dining room I managed to overhear a few words spoken in German. There’s a specific reason for the German voices to be heard at Changchun’s South Lake Hotel. You may be aware that the German car manufacturer Volkswagen runs a plant in Changchun. I’ve been filled in through the grapevine that Volkswagen accommodates some of its staff in Changchun at the South Lake Hotel on a long term basis. You can rest assured that there are worse spots to reside than the South Lake Hotel in Changchun.
Venture Capital in China
The same line applies to venture capital in China. There are worse spots for venture capital than my present home turf China. In fact, venture capital seems to be pouring into China at present. You need no filling in. Under the right circumstances, venture capitalists plough their money into start ups that project the image of high potentials. The investment’s typically made in old fashioned cash. The cash acquires a stake in the up and coming enterprise. Apart from the cash, venture capitalists add value to the outfit through their expertise. At the end of the day, they hope to make a bundle through an IPO, for instance.

(Photo opposite: South Lake, Changchun, China) That sort of thing’s set to ramp up economic development in present day China. Venture capital firms are rumoured to have placed investments in China to the tune of 2.5 billion US dollars in the first six months of this year alone. Venture capital in China’s thus gone north by eighty five percent or so in comparison to the previous year. A large chunk of all this must’ve been funneled in through newish China venture funds. Outfits like Matrix Partners and Accel Partners open up those funds. Above all, venture capital seems to contribute to transforming China into a thriving entrepreneurial economy.
Let’s wrap all this up. Having brunch at the South Lake Hotel every now and then boosts my quality of life. Venture capital’s likely to deliver value for Chinese business, in particular in the internet sector. You may be in a position to give both things a go on a little outing to Changchun.
